I love Paul Hecht's voice. Its masculine baritone, timbre, effortless articulation, and resonance conger radio tough guys like Howard Duff and Edmond O'Brien. In addition, he knows how to deliver an intelligent performance and vivify characters. Here he essays a Canadian sci-fi thriller with religious overtones, set in the near future. Dr. Hobson has achieved a great scientific breakthrough with a device that can tell when a soul enters and leaves a human body. To test a theory, he creates digital simulations of his living but bodiless self, his dead self, and a control self. Then, one of them (which?) begins murdering people. A cop has to die to stop the killer. Intriguing. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine
