Kristiana Gregory presents an insider's view of the Revolutionary War and George and Martha Washington through the compassionate and observant eyes of 11-year-old Abigail. Narrator Jennifer Ikeda beautifully presents the vocabulary and delivery of early America from the perspective of a child. As the army camps on the family's farm, Abigail sees shoeless soldiers and a military hospital while going about her daily life. Light moments include visits with Mrs. Washington and learning about a cake that requires 40 eggs! Barbara Rosenblat concludes with historical notes and an epilogue explaining the fate of major characters. A fascinating addition to the usual information about this important period. S.G.B.
