Reconciliation after the Rwandan genocide • It was 30 years ago, in April 1994, that the world was rocked by the mass genocide of the Hutu against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Some 800,000 people were murdered with machetes, knives, clubs, stones, and guns for 100 days. After 30 years, with the help of social workers, perpetrators and victims are coming closer together. Dutch photographer Jan Banning made double portraits of the perpetrators and survivors. “I saw the extremes of human beings here,” he says.
