Artdoc Photography Magazine

#6 2021
Magazine

Artdoc is an international digital magazine dedicated to the world of photography. The name Artdoc refers to our vision of art photography and documentary photography. The two fields have merged, and contemporary photography is a blend of both. Artdoc brings photography as the visual storytelling medium of our time. Artdoc Photography Magazine publishes engaging and high-quality portfolios of established and emerging photographers. Moreover, Artdoc publishes critical essays about the theory of photography.

Female visions of the turbulent world

Young women of hope and strength Rania Matar • The young women that Lebanese-American photographer Rania Matar portrayed in her new book SHE, are all in their early twenties, are beautiful, not only in the formal physical sense but also in an emotional and even political sense. The portraits are personal expressions and tell a universal story of hope of the new generation. “The photographs became, for me, a way of focusing on my identity, and my daughters’ identities, but also on the shared humanity of strength and hope.”

Another Nature

What photography is • It has been thirty years since Roland Barthes published his “little book,” Camera Lucida. In the intervening years photography has become a major part of the international art market, and a common subject in university departments of art history and philosophy. An enormous literature has grown up around photography, its history, theory, practice, and criticism.

In search of femininity

Loss and Renewal

Experimental Photography • Our exhibition Experimental Photography features talented photographers who prove there are no limitations in art photography. Their abstract images reflect their personal lives, revealing philosophies, criticisms, struggles, and vulnerabilities. In Experimental Photography, human figures, nature, cities, mountains are captured in abstract ways.

Between Two Worlds

#Photo Books

A Family of Colours and Emotions • The Flowers Family (Los Flores y las flores in Spanish), photographed by Argentinian photographer Cecilia Reynoso is a non-narrative project about her husband’s extended family. According to the family tradition, they often come together for dinners and parties. These intimate and personal photographs by Cecilia Reynoso show the love and tenderness between the family members. “We gather at lunch on Sundays. These Argentinian lunches last forever, like three to five hours. We all sit at the table, and the food comes and comes.

Nocturnal Mood of Time

The role we played to disappear

Cyanotypes as Memories • The series Dust in the Wind by German artist Katja Liebmann comprises large cyanotypes depicting old scratched and blurry photographs from the artist’s archive. The photo works are a form of memories of impressions of the cities she visited. Coming from the former DDR, travelling was a major discovery. “It was a great experience. I felt like Columbus discovering the new world.”
