BRAVING THE COLD • The Barlow is landing site number five in the Adams Wilderness area. You fly from the Whataroa carpark, head east up the Perth and then quickly turn again to wind your way up the famously difficult Barlow Valley, veering toward the main divide to touch down deep in the valley on an icy tussock flat at the scrubline, right as the river begins to enter the scrub belt.

A Roar To Remember • 2021 staggered in the door after its predecessor was an absolute write-off. My best mate Burt and I brainstormed a few ideas over Messenger and decided that it was time was to really challenge our fitness and explore some open tussock country in search of that big Red

WE ALL GET LUCKY • We all get lucky a couple times in our lives, but those instances are usually few and far between

NOT BAD FOR A FIRST • It was on an April day trip in the central plateau, during the Sika roar, when Riley managed to secure a magnificent eight-point Sika stag of the calibre that some spend a life time searching for.

BUSH PIGLET • The idea of the baby bush pig is to have a little lightweight rifle with minimal recoil, better barrel life and lower ammunition costs than its big brothers

WINTER TAHR HUNTING • I don't know about you, but I love packing for an adventure

CHAMOIS BY BOW • It was late autumn and while most hunters are gearing up to chase the tahr rut, I chose to pick up the bow to pursue one of my favourite New Zealand game animals, the chamois

HOW TO INVENT AN ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER

POST ROAR OPPORTUNITIES • The Red roar is all over. But if you didn’t get out, or did, but missed out, all is not lost

PUTTING THE THEORY TO WORK

UPPER GREENSTONE FALLOW BALLOT • We managed to secure our first ballot in the Upper Greenstone for the 1st of May. Due to COVID, two members of our original party had to be swapped out

THE PINKEYE PROJECT • On February 16th 2022, I launched the Pink Eye Project in New Zealand with my mentors Luca Rossi and Paolo Tizzani. Barbara Moroni and Kaylyn Pinney have most recently reinforced the core research group

THE HISTORY

THE OTOKO • The Otoko is located at the right at the southern end of the tahr ballot blocks, is the westernmost landing side and is somewhat the southern edge of the core tahr terrain

SKIN TANNING WHAT'S INVOLVED? • Right so you’ve shot that bull or buck you’ve been trying to get for years, but now what?

STAN'S HUT • Stan’s Hut is a located in a tussock clearing in the alpine scrub zone on the eastern slopes of the Price Range in the Whataroa valley. It is a bit of an anomaly in that it is located on public conservation land but wasn’t built by a government agency

Hemitragus jemlahicus

Arctic Circle Muskox • The granite outcrops got bigger and the country wetter as we flew north. We descended over what seemed like an inland sea as the plane approached the airstrip. Our destination was Great Bear Lake Lodge where we would spend a week hunting muskox

Bear Lake facts

THE GAC UPDATE

BERETTA A400 LITE - THE ALL ROUND HUNTERS SHOTGUN • The Beretta A400 is the best semi auto shotgun in the world today and has been an immense success story for Beretta. They are without doubt the softest recoiling shotgun on the market

MSR HUBBA HUBBA TENT • MSR needs no introduction to Kiwis, and the Hubba Hubba hardly does either

FISH & GAME WILD GAME COOKBOOK BY ANGELO GEORGALLI • You’ll probably have a cookbook or two...
