LONDON MILK: Part One • Milk by rail on BR ended more than 40 years ago with the cessation of the last movements between Cornwall and London in 1980. David J. Hayes looks back at these workings, with particular emphasis on their final decade of operation during the 1970s.

Recreating LMS No.10000 • 10000 was Britain’s first successful mainline diesel locomotive. However, it was scrapped in 1968. Now a replacement locomotive is being constructed by the Ivatt Diesel Re-creation Society. The Society’s Secretary, Andrew Hoseason, tells the story and explains progress made this year.

The Devon Scots • Steve Carter spent many happy hours photographing the Class 47/7s when they moved from Scotland to work trains between London Waterloo and Exeter.

PORTSEA • Paul Hopkins and John Wakeman’s south coast harbour scene is a fusion of scales that tested their creativity.

Bachmann Class 37

The last days of the ‘Heritage’ DMUs in Glasgow • Ian Buck asks, “What do these two cities of Glasgow and Manchester have in common?”

Privately Owned Mark 1 Main Line Coaches

Virgin Cross Country loco hauled summer Saturday farewell: 17th August 2002 • The final long distance Virgin Cross Country loco hauled service ran on 19th August 2002. The 08:46 Penzance to Manchester, will long be remembered by enthusiasts and was headed by 47840 ‘North Star’ and 47847 ‘Brian Morrison/Railway World Magazine’. A photograph of this train appeared in TRACTION 271 on page 60. The previous summer Saturday, two days earlier, saw several loco hauled workings which Richard Giles recorded passing through the North Somerset area.

Variety in Luxembourg: Part 1 the 1960s to 1970s • Colin Boocock shows how even the smallest EU state can exhibit a wide variety of motive power.
