Road Rider Bike Guide

Editorial

NEW MIDDLEWEIGHTS FOR 2023 • New twin-pot engines from Suzuki and Honda for 2023…

SPORT • Modern sports motorcycles are incredible. From the pocket-rocket small-bore machines built for learning sports riding to the bitumen-burning machines used as the basis for World Superbike Championship competition, the sports class is for those who want to ride fast. Today’s machines are built with track use in mind, requiring little preparation to be ready for knee-scraping, highspeed fun, yet are also capable and incredible on a winding road.

NAKED • Motorcycles in their natural state — a pair of wheels, handlebars, an engine and seat. OK, you get more than that these days, but that’s the essence of a naked bike, and of motorcycling. Get out there and enjoy.

RETRO NAKED • The look, the style, no stress. More reliable, safer and often much, much nicer to ride than bikes from former generations, Retro Nakeds offer fun, reliability, low maintenance and good performance.

SPORTS TOURING • Sportsbike handling with long-distance comfort. It’s the Holy Grail so many road riders look for — fun in the twisties and touring bike convenience. Manufacturers have been trying to square this circle for decades, and each year they get a little closer. Most of the bikes here are good for two-up riding and can accept luggage for longer rides. All will be fun on a winding road.

TOURERS • Head out on the highway … eat the miles, see the world. A touring bike is comfortable all day with the grunt to make life easy, from cruising to overtaking effortlessly. Add in a passenger and lots of luggage to make life even better on the road.

CRUISERS • Time to Head Out on the Highway? You want a cruiser, the basis for a customised machine you can make your own. Style, performance, comfort and great looks await.

ADVENTURE • Adventure bikes now come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from LAMS-approved small capacity machines to some of the biggest, heaviest and most capable tourers imaginable. With the segment having been one of the hottest for decades, the variety of machinery is huge — there’s something here to suit everyone who wants to spend even just a little time off the blacktop right through to those who spend all their time in the gravel.

SUPERMOTO • With their dirt-bike heritage and road-based wheels, tyres and brakes, Supermotos are agile, quick and heaps of fun. You can race them, commute on them and go nuts on them.
