Aotearoa Quilters' Colour Challenge – Brown • Aotearoa Quilters holds a colour challenge each year. 2022’s colour was brown. There were more than 120 12in square quilts entered. Each one is made available for sale, and you can see them all online at www.aotearoaquilters.co.nz/2022-brown
Stars and Crowns • The traditional Star and Crown block is showcased in a fun modern setting. The blocks are foundation pieced in eight segments, then laid out on point. After piecing the blocks together, they are outlined with a narrow strip that separates them from the setting triangles around the edges.
Marmalade • This design is fabulous for using up scraps or, if you prefer, working with a range. Janelle features some of the prints from the Laundry Basket Seamstress range.

Off the Shelf • Enjoy this selection of new and recently released books on patchwork and quilting topics and techniques.
Somerset Stroll • Inspired by the Regency Somerset Blues fabric range by Christopher Wilson-Tate, Cheryl designed this quilt using the muted shades of yellow, strolling through the traditional Grandmother’s Choice blocks.
Take Flight • Originally shared in Homespun 10.6, June 2009, this wonderful quilt is quite easy to make — it’s just half-square triangles. Admittedly, there are a lot of them, but attention to accuracy in sewing with a scant ¼in seam is all that’s required for an impressive outcome. This quilt is also a great opportunity to use up bits and pieces from your scrap basket, making it a great stashbuster.
Set-in Seams • Precise sewing from dot to dot will ensure the seams work.
Blush • This cot quilt could be made using several different methods: rotary cutting and machine piecing; hand cutting and machine or hand piecing; or English paper piecing. This quilt has been rotary cut and machine pieced. It is fiddly to make because of the set-in seams. However, if you don’t mind the re-positioning and pinning, it’s actually the quickest method. The key to success with set-in seams is accurate pinning, and not stitching into the seam allowance. If you would like to know more about the texhnique, turn to page 66.

Second Chance Circles • The circles and rings of the Juggling Summer by Zen Chic for Moda fabric range inspired Terase to use the Drunkard’s Path block. She made the blocks 8½in so she could showcase the great prints.
Showcase 2022 • Showcase is the annual, judged quilt exhibition which is open to members of Victorian Quilters. After a couple of years of disruption, the guild was delighted to be able to present this year’s quilt show in person. These are a few of the winners. You can see more at their website: www.victorianquilters.org/showcase-2022-winners

Puggles • This quilt was inspired by Denver’s saturated blue skies and the lavender bushes throughout Sandra’s garden. A textured solid has been used to give the quilt movement.
