ANZAC CENTENARY TRIPTYCH QUILT • The Anzac Centenary Triptych quilt was designed by Wendy Snook and was made along with Rosemary Kreun and five other ladies. It was made to celebrate the 2015 Anzac Centenary and has been on display at the Cranbourne RSL until the building was sold in 2022. It was then accepted by the Shrine of Remembrance team in Victoria for safe keeping as a legacy for Victoria. In Wendy’s words, this is the story …

AUSTRALIAN Fabric Designs • These are just a few of the new Australian-designed fabric ranges that have been released in 2023.

NEW TEXTILE PATTERN DESIGN FROM REMOTE WA Meet Susan Standen • Susan is well schooled in 20th-century design principles of the decorative arts and crafts movement, Bauhaus designers, impressionists and colour theory from her early career study days in graphics and textile design in WA, Tasmania and the Canberra School of Art in the mid-1980s. After many years working in film and television, she retrained in surface pattern design.

AUSTRALIAN BOOKS • We hope you enjoy these reviews of books by Australian authors.

Australian Quilt Show • This is the second year that this event has been presented. The Best of Show award is $10,000, and the winning quilts will be shown at various venues throughout the year. For more information visit: www.craftfair.com.au/wp/Canberra/australian-quilt-show-2023

Bathing Boxes • The iconic Melbourne beachside bathing boxes were the inspiration for this quilt. Along with the Southern Cross, the quilted ‘thongs’ make a perfect ‘beach’ quilt!

Best of Australia • Over the past 12 months, all states and territories of Australia have presented their annual members’ quilt show. These are the winning, Best of Show, quilts from each event.

Playing with A BLOCK • All blocks in this quilt are made to the same pattern. However, the non-repetitive look is achieved by reversing the colour and grey in some blocks, and by placing blocks in various orientations. The design was inspired by the mathematical E-curve first described by Douglas McKenna. It suits being made from fabrics left over from other projects.

Splat • Another startling and exciting foundation-pieced pattern from favourite designer, tutor and author Chris Jurd.

Art Quilt Australia 2023 • Art Quilt Australia 2023 including Expressions: The Wool Quilt Prize was open to the public at the National Wool Museum, Geelong, Victoria, from August 12 until November 12. Here, we share the five prize-winning quilts. If you would like to view the online gallery, visit: www.ozquiltnetwork.org.au/exhibitions/art-quilt-australia
