New York Moves

Spring 2019
Magazine

Moves Magazine is a lifestyle magazine for city women (and men), unafraid to ask hard questions. We take on social, political, and global topics and show how women are shaping the world we live in today. Written with a progressive vibe, the magazine offers a provocative, often polemic view of society; an askance look at the world we live in.

New York Moves

Backstage • The punishment we suffer, if we refuse to take an interest in matters of government, is to live under the government of worse men. —Plato

Contributors

Bitch • “…Over 65 we have (hopefully) maximum driving hours under our belts but our physical condition—eyesight, muscle control, speed of reaction, etc.—leaves an awful lot to be desired…“

BAD APPLE • AN OUTSIDER TELLS US A FEW HOME TRUTHS ABOUT LIVING IN THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD THAT SHE THINKS WE DON’T KNOW ALREADY. BUT MAYBE WHAT SHE REALLY WANTS IS TO COME AND JOIN US.

WHAT A WIZ OF AN IDEA

YES, CHEF!

DIVE BAR DIVAS • Bar hopping on a Saturday can be the stuff of nightmares if you’re the one catering to the drunks. *Shannon, who worked at an Irish Pub in NYC’s East village, described those customers at their worst. “I worked shifts from 6:00pm to 3:00am and it was pretty awful. You either have Bridge and Tunnel people or your business guys with their ties undone on a bender. Worst, you got your fresh out-of-school kids who have their first job and are there to get, ‘fucking wasted man!’ The trick was to crank the music really loud and that would encourage people not to linger and to drink someplace else. Those were the shifts where I’d regularly get my ass grabbed

BRAVE: ROSE McGOWAN • For the past 15 years Moves Magazine has advocated for women’s rights, social fairness and equal opportunity to its readers.

AUBREY PLAZA

A WHITER SHADE

It's Undeniable By Bill Nye • There is no such thing as race. We are all the same race. We all come from a common ancestor. We are homo sapiens with different skin colors and skin color is a tiny, recent, and transient feature of human genetics brought about for the most part by geographic location and the prevailing climate. Race, as it is commonly understood, is an illusion. Racism has no foundation in science and is the product of humankind's ignorance and fear of the strange and unknown, down through the millennia. It is kept alive today by bigotry and that same fear of the unknown. Isn't it about time the enlightened enlightened the un-enlightened. Then it would only leave religion to cause the world's conflicts. Oh… and money,

SHOW ME THE MONEY • WOMEN WILL DRESS ACCORDINGLY FOR THE HOT HUMID SUMMER DAYS AHEAD, BUT AS USUAL MEN GET TO TAKE THE EASY, LAZY WAY. WELL IT’S TIME FOR THE GUYS TO PAY THEIR DUES AND PUT SOME OUT THERE. TIME TO MAN UP!

TOM PAYNE • Tom Payne (almost the namessake of founding father and vehement anti-christian, Tom Paine) is, ironically, best known for portraying a character named Jesus in tv's "Walking Dead," (of whom he bears a striking resemblance to the popular image). A slightly tenuous segue maybe, but it promises the massively popular actor a varied and eclectic choice of roles in what looks like being a busy career.

IMAGINE ME, THE MURDERESS

Aflac's Caring Capitalist, Dan Amos • “… We’ve been one of the best places for African Americans. We’ve been one of the best places for women… “

ZOE LISTER JONES

BEN RAPPAPORT

Power Women 2017 Gala Awards

LOGAN MILLER • Logan Miller truly is a chameleon. The humble 26 year-old can transform into an impressive range of characters, ranging from sympathetic love interest—Kent in Before I Fall—to an antagonistic school bully in the upcoming film Love, Simon.

Human Trafficking • It's only 7am, and already...
