EDITOR’S LETTER

ALL THE POSSIBILITIES • The creatives behind our centennial issue discuss opportunity and their next big move.

JULIA NOBIS • We go WAY BACK with Julia. From her first leather-clad shoot called Rat Bag to an almost week-long Iberian escape for a cover like no other – Raw, Free and Feeling It – a moment she called a “beautiful experience” despite the meteorological challenges you can sometimes face on a peninsular over winter. We knew her when she was studying quantum physics, lugging heavy textbooks between the shows, had a turtle named Cornelius and really liked to eat pizza. And we watched on as she became one of the hardest working ICONS in the business. She was always going to be our ‘100’. Infinite, self-determined, with limitless potential. A chameleon in front our lens in New York City for this very special issue, we thought ‘baby, you are long way from the Bondi Junction bus exchange’. To the one that found her… thank you, forevermore.

REI KAWAKUBO • “Fashion is something that you can attach to yourself, put on, and through that interaction, the meaning of it is born.”

WE LOVE

THE FACES • 100 issues, 100 faces. From industry icons to models-of-the-moment, these are 100 ones to watch.

WHAT ARE WE FIGHTING FOR? • Through social and political upheaval, fashion is once again mirroring the sentiments of the day.

TIDAL CHANGE

GEMSTONES FOR GENERATIONS • If diamonds are forever, where do other gemstones come into play?

I SEE YOU

THEY DID IT TRUE • Honouring those who have graced our last 100 issues, we look back at the image makers who made an impact.

READS • Grappling with life itself, these are the books we look to understand a means beyond ourselves.

I ME MINE • Reclaiming agency over herself, Bridget Gao-Hollitt ponders her form and image.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW • Jelena Telecki on representation, research and past experiences bleeding into her work.

HOW BIG, HOW BOLD • Francois Truffaut’s 1959 film based on his own boyhood in German-occupied France is more than a tale of childhood rebellion: it is a quest for freedom and the independence often not afforded unto youth.

TRADITION AND SUBVERSION • Unpacking the allure of country music with anti-hero, Orville Peck.

RECORDS • The kind of music that blends juxtaposing genres to create immersive, eclectic sound.

SO I RISE

SIMPLY THE BEST • In celebration of our centennial issue, we pay homage to the products that have become our beauty cupboard staples.

I TAKE YOU… • If traditions are made to be broken, are consensually non-monogamous relationships the way forward?

FROM US TO YOU • Subscribe, renew or extend your RUSSH subscription for $50 to receive your free $150 Dinosaur Designs gift voucher.*

BISOUS • With each Eau de Chanel fragrance a journey rooted in feelings, memories and emotions, Kitty Callaghan reminisces on time spent in Paris and her relationship with the city and with Chanel.
