Artists Back to Basics is an entry level magazine for all artists. From setting up a studio to what easel to choose it’s a must for all artists. Featuring the latest in news, reviews and products from the art world as well as exhibition previews and reviews

Red Dress Vase and Flowers • A beatiful still life with oil paints on linen

“Life in the Shadows”

Artistic Licence • This accomplished artist likes to do drawings of her photographs and plan her subjects using artistic licence … keeping her original photographs merely for reference.

Morning Reflections – Echuca • This painting is not for the faint-hearted. It features three distinct stages: A detailed wharf and boats; background gums; and water with reflections.

Shelena Russell Galleries • Wonderful art galleries are located all over this country, hosting and promoting the work of Australia’s diverse exponents of art. Artist’s Palette magazine showcases a broad selection of these venues. In this Issue, we look at what is described as ‘The Heart of Art’ on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Christmas Buyers’ Guide • Here’s a summary of some of the fabulous products that are now available in Australia, with plenty of hints and tips.

Swaggy’s Calling Card!

Why I Like to Paint • A career in engineering was finally able to take a backseat, enabling this talented artist to devote more time and attention to her drawings and paintings.

South Australia’s Natural History Museum • The architectural design of the building, the colour and texture of the sandstone block work together with the shadow cast by the sun in the north-western sky inspired the artist to paint this subject. She used two reference photographs to compose the painting, simplifying the stonework in the lower section of the building and favouring the structure and colours of the cycads for the planting in the foreground.

“The Magic Bit”

Workshop Arts Centre and Ewart Gallery • Beautiful art galleries are located all over this country, hosting and promoting the works of Australia’s diverse exponents of art. Artist’s Palette magazine showcases a broad selection of these venues. In this Issue, we focus on the impressive Workshop Arts Centre and Ewart Gallery at Willoughby in suburban Sydney.
