Letter from the Director
8 Key Phrases to Get to Know the British Duo • It is the most singular piece of contemporary art—a living sculpture formed by two individuals named Gilbert Proesch and George Passmore, or their resulting hybrid: Gilbert & George. They defend that art is in everything they do or touch and have responded to this interview's eight questions with eight concise, powerful sentences. Through them, we have reconstructed their story. That is also art.

The Artist of Timeless Design • Despite the cold temperatures that London welcomed her only a few hours ago, Allegra Hicks' voice conveys nothing but warmth and affection. The artist and designer, who turned her namesake textile and furniture firm into a global style landmark, has just returned home after participating in Venice Glass Week with an installation that could well sum up her ever-elegant, eclectic, and sophisticated work’s ability to amaze: a 63-square-meter tapestry of painted linen embroidered with more than a thousand Murano glass beads. Hicks, who lives halfway between London and Naples, does not disguise her enthusiasm for having an agenda full of stimulating projects. She is also fortunate enough, at this point in her life, to be able to prioritize the artistic aspect over the commercial with an enthusiasm worthy of a beginner. “I'm experiencing a very interesting moment because of that, since it was not always like that in the past. Everything can change in a second, but let’s just say that my life is now heading toward where I wanted it to go,” acknowledges the Italian native. It seems clear that the wind, however cold it blows on the banks of the Thames, is blowing in her favor.
Maison GUERLAIN the luxury of authenticity • Its history is as fascinating as its fragrances. Ground-breaking, legendary, iconic, and unique, the Maison Guerlain des Champs Elysées is a place of reverence due to its beauty, architecture, and design. Here we find French savoir-faire at its best.
EL DORADO
THE VOICE OF THE JAZ(Z) GENERATION • They say she is the successor of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald and, in view of her skyrocketing career, she seems destined to fulfill even the most optimistic predictions. But Samara Joy, the 22-year-old who has revolutionized and rejuvenated the international jazz scene, prefers to opt for caution and restraint. "I'm not trying to be a reference in my generation, I just hope that by sharing my music people can feel attracted to it," she explains to White Paper By via video call, relaxed on the couch while sipping a bottle of vitamin water. We find her in Monterrey, California, ready to tackle one of the fifty concerts that, in just a few months, will mark the launch of her new album, Linger Awhile (Universal Music Classics & Jazz). The album updates the classics of the genre and presents them to a new audience, the same audience that has swarmed by the hundreds of thousands on the social network profiles that have made her a viral phenomenon. Daughter of a bass player and granddaughter of members of The Savettes of Philadelphia choir, the soundtrack of her native Bronx—composed by Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Donny Hathaway—was the best school for a Samara Joy who now takes to the world's stages to teach elegance,...
