WHAT’S NEW

NINE LIVES

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS

TWO WHITE EMUS • Regular reader – and Fujifilm Showcase entrant – John Walker tells the tale of how he got started as a serious photographer, largely by trial and error… and a little encouragement from a certain photography magazine you might know well.

FIRED UP

2021 SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS OPEN CATEGORY WINNERS AND FINALISTS • The world’s biggest photography awards again attracted a huge number of entries – from all over the world – to its four main competition sections. The winning images in each of the Open competition’s 10 categories are accompanied here by a selection of the finalists.

TOPPED UP • Nikon has listened to the feedback and so the Z 6II answers all the grumbles about the original camera and provides some extra goodies to make it even more competitive… and appealing.

BEAUTY AND BEAST • Leica pushes its SL full-frame mirrorless system even more into the mainstream with the multi-talented SL2-S, and there’s even affordability in this mix. Yes, really.

COLD SNAPS • Winter brings the opportunity to head to Australia’s snow country - or possibly even New Zealand - to take on the challenges of photography in the snow and ice, but both you and your camera gear need to be prepared for the conditions.

ON THE LEVEL • Unlike its name, Benro’s Tortoise tripod is actually quick to set up, but it’s also designed to optimise stability.

CLOSE UP AND PERSONAL • Macro photography opens up a whole new world of subject matter, and lucky owners of Canon RF mount mirrorless bodies can now get involved more affordably with a lens that suits plenty of other applications too.

QUALITY AND CONTROL • It’s been a while between drinks for a new A3+ format Epson photo printer, but the P706 looks to have been worth the wait as far as performance is concerned.

TAKING IT EASY • Kodak spent the best part of a century perfecting the snapshot camera and arguably achieved its goal with the 110 Pocket Instamatic format. It wasn’t such a big hit with enthusiast-level shooters, but the camera sold in huge numbers for the best part of two decades.

FUJIFILM SHOWCASE • 2021 FUJIF LM SHOWCASE THIRD ROUND WINNERS

DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS • BUYER’S CHECK LIST MAY/JUNE 2021
