WHAT’S NEW

LAST DRINKS FOR THE DSLR

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS

FACING UP • The second running of the International Portrait Of The Year competition attracted entries from all over the world and, once again, reflected the sheer diversity and richness of the human experience.

ON A CLOUD

THE CREAM OF THE CROP • Fujifilm’s new X-mount flagship introduces a fifth-generation X Trans sensor and X Processor, an updated AF system, and a significantly expanded suite of video capabilities.

REWARD FOR (NOT) A LOT OF EFFORT • The second OM System-badged lens drives home the advantages of the Micro Four Thirds sensor size – really useful telephoto capabilities packaged into something that fits in the palm of your hand.

RACE PACE • The production gremlin in the last issue that resulted in the final page of this test report being omitted did have one upside. We’ve been able to include some additional observations – and images – from our trail with the OM System 40-150mm f/4.0 PRO and the OM System OM-1 at the 2022 Bathurst 12 Hour GT race.

THANK GOD YOU’RE HERE • Canon finally gets serious about an APS-C mirrorless camera system and millions of its cropped sensor DSLR users heave a big sigh of relief. And the R7 is good enough to have much wider appeal too.

BIG PERFORMANCE • The classic 135mm focal length is a lot more versatile than you might think, especially when combined with a fast maximum aperture and useful close-up focusing capabilities. Samyang’s new AF model for the Sony FE mount adds superlative performance to the mix.

READY TO GET INTO FILM PHOTOGRAPHY? • With the film photography revival progressing nicely – at least as far as the mainstream formats are concerned – investing in an analog camera system is a safer bet than it was a few years ago. So why not think big and jump straight into medium format?
