MONITOR BOXES • We have never had a more comprehensive special on the subject of active speakers: we examine almost every active box available and present it with strengths, weaknesses and suitability. In recent months, many manufacturers have surprised us with new concepts, technical innovations and great sound. So it‘s time to pick out the best of them, so you can find the right monitor for you and your studio and take your sound to the next level.

Setup & Aufstellung Key answers from:

„Burn in“ monitors? Key answers from:

Spikes & Form Key answers from:

Test: Adam Audio A Series • „Built to reveal“ is the motto of the new A series from Adam Audio. And it doesn‘t just reveal hidden details in the music. A lot was also revealed to us when we personally stopped by the company in Berlin-Adlershof at the end of November to test the new monitors.

Interview with Felix Beu • Felix Beu is a QA engineer at Adam Audio, which means quality assurance. He ensured quality assurance throughout the project and was involved in the development of the A Series from start to finish. Felix answered our questions on site.

Immersive audio • It is often announced as „immersive audio“, an immersion in music and unforgettable sound experience, thanks to which movies feel like blockbusters and where you are actually „in the middle of it instead of just being there“. More and more artists are jumping on the bandwagon and presenting their songs in 3D, so to speak. But what is Dolby Atmos, what exactly does it do, who is it made for and what do you need for it? Together with Roger Roschnik from PSI Audio we reveal the secrets ...

Test: Swissonic V7 & M-Control • Swissonic is Thomann‘s house brand and the products are manufactured in China, so you should not expect Swiss quality goods, contrary to the name. However, the studio monitors surprise with good workmanship and rich sound despite the low price.

Invitation to a Problem • Every gesture should be a major event – rarely has Canadian synthesist, songwriter and sonic visionary Rich Aucoin made his personal philosophy more clear than on the four full-length volumes of his Synthetic series. Aucoinplays 37 synthesizers alone on the first instalment, many more will feature over the upcoming follow-ups. We talked to Rich about his studio, his affection for physical and virtual synthesizers and pushing technology to its limits.

Door to the universe • Already since the mid-90s, French producer Terence Fixmer has proven to be very busy in electronic music scene – whether together with Nitzer Ebb singer Douglas McCarthy (as Fixmer/McCarthy) or solo. His latest solo album „Shifting Signals“ - Fixmer‘s debut for the label Mute Records - again offers a wide and sonically extremely interesting range of sounds between techno, industrial and electro and provided us with a fitting occasion for a conversation about his favorite sound generators, inspirations, release forms and much more.
