Aussie legend • New evidence has emerged to show that the Bill Bourke Special’s 428 conversion and associated enhancements were in fact done right here in Australia – not, as was thought, at Kar-Kraft in the US. But that’s only part of the fascinating tale of this most famous of Australian Falcons.
Holden VU SS The ‘two-door V8 sports car’ that saved the Commodore ute • The innovative, sleek-styled VU Holden Ute not only reinvented the traditional Aussie utility vehicle, but the SS version also helped save the Holden ute from extinction.
A day in the sun • June 2, 1974: Chesterfield Sun 7 Series
Like father... • …like daughter. With a drag racer for a dad, it’s no surprise that Ann Gordon is a fan of old-school Aussie muscle – like this neatly turned out XY Fairmont 302, which Ann restored herself.
Australian drag racing’s finest Muscle Car movers and shakers
The Bear and family • Kent Youlden never got to race in the Bathurst 1000 – but later his son won it. In his day job at Ford, Kent was part of the in-house team that produced the special Falcon touring car race bodyshells; on weekends he plied his trade on the track, earning a reputation as a sedan racer of considerable note, and one of Australia’s best ever in the subtle art of production car racing.
Classic Island • For anyone who’s not been to the Phillip Island Classic, it’s like this. Imagine the old Australian MUSCLE CAR Masters at Eastern Creek, but in a four-day, long-weekend race meeting in the flavour of the Goodwood Revival – but without Goodwood’s mandatory period dress code.

Bathurst or bust? • Circumstances forced Supercars to kick its 2024 season off at Bathurst. What it did show, and not for the first time, is that regular touring car championship rounds on the Mountain mostly don’t work.
Muscle Stuff • Essential products for the Australian MUSCLE CAR enthusiast.
