EXPOSURE

UKIYO • This one caught our eye for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the name was pretty unique, so we wanted to find out more. Secondly, it’s a Leo Hochgrassl film so expected it to be a stylish one. It’s also got Fabian Muhmenthaler in it so it was always gonna get a watch from us. We dropped Fabi a line to find out more about the shoot…

THE HAUMANI TWINS • Marking the first time we’ve had twins appear in the same section of the magazine (or any section, for that matter), we got in touch with Tahitian duo the Haumani brothers, to find out more about them as they gradually march a path toward foil greatness.

JASON & THE WHALE • Only those who are “not into social media” (or having some time out from it) can have missed the viral storm that blew up around Aussie wingfoiler Jason Breen’s recent encounter with a humpback whale. Even we jumped on that bandwagon with an Instagram post, and for good reason – it was incredible. We needed a little more background so dropped Jason a line shortly before heading to print.

SECRET SPOT

WINGFOILING IN WALLIS AND FUTUNA • Sarah Hebert’s annual pilgrimage to two isolated islands in the South Pacific is a very royal affair… with some excellent winging conditions to enjoy outside of the celebrations.

FLITE X MARC NEWSON • The term ‘snazzy’ is one that’s somewhat overused, but when we copped eyes on the new Marc Newson eFoil from Fliteboard, well, that’s what came to the minds of everyone here at FMHQ. This new limited edition eFoil strides the line between high functioning technology and contemporary design chic. Clearly, we needed to have a chat with Fliteboard founder, David Trewern.

SKOOKUM NARROWS BC • Ever the purveyor of excellent adventure content, we have a double bill from Brian Grubb this issue. One from above ground, and one from far below. First up, we’re off to some sketchy river rapids in wild British Columbia…

DEEPER UNDERGROUND • With the original pitch of wakeskating through a cave deep under the state of Indiana deemed logistically impossible, the suggestion of switching it up with an eFoil won round the Red Bull organizers, and rider Brian Grubb – who, as we already know, is no stranger to finding himself in some highly unusual places on a foil…

FIJIAN ESCAPADES • Missing his usual travel buddy and sidekick photographer, Eric Duran, Bryan Metcalf-Perez had to instead enlist the help of technology and a couple of willing volunteers to capture an epic session on the edge of a Fijian island reef…

SUBSCRIBE TODAY • …AND GET 4 ISSUES A YEAR OF PURE FOIL GOODNESS, AND A 100% ORGANIC TEE OF YOUR CHOICE!

GOOD STUFF

LAKE FANTASTIC • Daydreaming of old haunts from his home on Maui, the accessibility of downwinding meant that Michi Schweiger could finally indulge his fantasy of a long and languid Lake Garda downwind run in the company of friends.

UNDER PRESSURE • Faced with a fast-approaching deadline within which he had to pull together an entire product photoshoot to do justice to the merging of Fanatic foils and boards into Duotone, the last thing Klaas Voget needed was a hitch in his complex and multi-layered travel plans. Unfortunately, his chosen airline had other ideas.
