FLITE X THE TURNER TWINS • Not one but three films that were mightily pleasing to the eyes and ears caught our attention recently. Featuring UK-based adventurers the Turner twins, the series followed the brothers across three distinct environments as they explored them on their Fliteboard eFoils. Curious as we are here at FM, we dropped them a line to find out a few more details…

BENJI CASTENSKIOLD • Benji Castenskiold’s hair tells you pretty much everything you need to know about how much time this 10-year-old spends in the sun and sea. Born in Columbia, honed his skills in Baja, you can expect this nomadic young talent to appear at your local beach if the wind’s up…

JAMES CASEY’S RECORD FOILING ATTEMPT • It’s unlikely this passed you by… and James Casey’s epic SUP effort certainly dominated our social feeds that day (spoiler alert: he bagged the record). But in case it did, we caught up with the man himself to find out exactly what went down, and what it took to get it done.

SECRET SPOT STEFAN SPIESSBERGER

OFF THE CHARTS • In this increasingly busy world, and with the pandemic-triggered boom in water sport pursuits yet to pop, epic surf locations that have managed to avoid an internet-driven radar of hungry wave-seekers are few and far between. With foiling, we’re lucky in the fact that we get a bigger choice of where and indeed when we can get out and ride. But that’s not to say a time won’t come in the distant future when even grade-A foiling spots are like gold dust. So, to celebrate secrets a little more than we already do with our regular ‘Secret Spot’ image, we’ve added this occasional section, that’ll keep the location under wraps, but also keep the foil adventurers amongst you nice and thirsty…

RUN, FLY, BE • North Foils recently released not only an expanded range of plush new products, but also a new website and new social media accounts, all arriving with an invigorated push from the brand as they seek to match their presence in the foiling universe with that of their highly successful kiteboarding division. Complementing this was their new tagline, “Run, Fly, Be” – we asked the North team to explain exactly what this means to you and I, and how it relates to the brand and their growing foil offering…

RIDE SMALL. GO BIG. • When the winter storms roll into Europe from the Atlantic, there’s a hardy few who view it as an opportunity not to be missed, pitching their equipment – and their own mettle – against the very parameters of what nature’s going to let them get away with…

THE VOODOO LEDGE • Sometimes, you just gotta go. A fortuitous excuse to get out of the home office was the only reason that Jeremy Wilmotte needed to undertake a strike mission on a long-considered but highly sketchy reef break… and the foil was the order of the day.

THE GOOD STUFF PRODUCTS WE LOVE

PERSPECTIVES FROM THE PARLLEL • Jesse Faen probably needs little introduction, especially if you’ve come to foiling from a surfing background. From pro surfer to editor of both Waves and Surfing Magazine, he then spent many years on tour with the Association of Surfing Professionals (the ASP, now the WSL). It’s given him a unique insight into the liberating benefits of foiling and to its tractor-beam-like attraction to many high-profile surfers… not least his friend and WQS contender, Manuel Selman (seen here). With a...
