Quilty Treasures

Sydney Quilt Show 2021 Online

Parc Beaulieu • An adorable mix of left-over triangles, antique-style tree appliqués and muted prints gives this quilt a unique French look. It was Véronique’s intention to make a quilt reminiscent of the Parc Beaulieu near where her mother lives in Europe.

Faeries in My Garden • Beautiful Designs ~ Exquisite Fabrics

Combaning Reef • This quilt has been designed with a nearby forest in mind, with its diversity of flora and fauna. Combined with the gorgeous new Cotton Beach range by Tilda, a ‘reef’ was conjured up in Janelle’s imagination.

Pins and Points • The blocks in this pattern are arranged in an interesting way that shows off beautiful fabrics to perfection..

Domestic MACHINE QUILTING with Anita Ellis • Continuous quilting the speedy way

On the road again • Road trips are fun, and now that the state borders are open again, let's hit the highway! The sashing for this quilt features a caravan novelty print, but you can choose to use any print you like. The caravans are fused to the block background and then raw-edge appliquéd by machine.

Off the Shelf • Enjoy this selection of recently released books.

Machine Embroidery Basics

Pretty in Ink

Tool Roll • Make use of the embroidery capacity on your sewing machine to make these handy tool rolls.

Machine Embroidery Online Resources • This is a list of some of the most talented and interesting digitisers, bloggers, Facebook and Instagram enthusiasts in the machine embroidery industry from Australia and Overseas.

Profile Deborah Louie • Deborah lives in a quiet, leafy suburb of Sydney, Oyster Bay, New South Wales, Australia. From her studio, she has a magical view of the Georges River, local bushland and the city.

Doreen’s Placemats • This is the first project in the Garden series of projects to be found in Deborah Louie’s new book (see review on the following page) Machine Magic, suitable for all skill levels. Deborah chose the gingham check background as she knew the diagonal lines in the pattern would reveal evenly spaced quilting lines perfect for a crosshatch quilting design. You could also choose a fabric of evenly spaced polka dots or a small-scale print to provide a perfect guideline for walking-foot quilting as well.

The State of the Art21 exhibition • Queensland Quilters' Guild has been exhibiting members’ works through a juried exhibition called STATE of the ART Quilt Exhibition (SOTA) since 2009. The 2021 exhibition attracted 29 entries and 25 were selected to be exhibited. Here we share the winning quilts and a few of our favourites.

Nature’s Paintbox Part 5 • In this issue we complete the next border featuring Flying Geese blocks. You will have the choice of adding Tulip appliqués that have only three shapes each, or the Blossom appliqués that have nine pieces each. Decide which appliqué you prefer — the Tulip or the Blossom — or you can use a combination of both.
