Gospel canticles • The gospel canticles (or “songs”) come from Luke’s gospel. In honor of the mystery of the Incarnation (to which all three refer), it is customary to make the sign of the cross as the canticle begins and to stand while it is sung.

Dazzled by communion • Mary Marrocco is a theologian, author, and psychotherapist. She is co-founder of St. Macrina Counselling Services and a lecturer at St. Augustine’s Seminary, Toronto, Canada. Mary is a regular contributor to Living Faith: Daily Catholic Devotions, published quarterly by Bayard, Inc. She also coordinates St. Mary of Egypt Refuge, a countryside place of hospitality for those in need, also offering Project Rachel. Mary and her husband reside in Toronto.
