CLEAN BOTTOMS • In mid-September 2023 Richard Steel, acting on behalf of Auckland Marina Users Association Inc and Auckland Yacht and Boating Association Inc., sent Boating New Zealand the following Letter to the Editor. While too long for our Letters section, in the interests of balance we agree that these organisations’ concerns deserve publication.

ALL SEASONS SENSATION • European Marine’s Leighton Henshaw took his time when looking around for a new range of boats to add to the company’s portfolio. He settled on Finnish manufacturer Sargo, a family-owned boatbuilding business that traces its roots back to 1967, part of a regional boatbuilding tradition that goes back generations.

A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE • Lapsed jetboating enthusiast Stewart Hydes spent eight years working for Fi-GLASS Boats in Christchurch, so it speaks volumes he opted for a Fi-GLASS Lightning when he rediscovered his boating mojo. Stewart drew on his considerable experience and knowledge to spec Wildstrike exactly the way he wanted her, an ongoing project.

Go small and soft! (PART 2) • A finesse approach to fishing soft baits can pay dividends, especially in heavily-fished areas with educated fish.

SHAW THING • All hail the cruising tender! We ask a lot of these valiant little vessels. Tenders must reliably ferry people, pets and provisions to and from shore in just about any weather.

BOAT BLING

A bridge too far • The Woodham family’s quest to master safe anchoring continues – starting this time with Islington Bay and its notoriously poor holding.

TAKING ON THE WORLD… • Designed and built in beautiful Papamoa Beach, this Purekraft 800HT is on its way to a customer in California, USA.

Your summer cruising library • Alex Stone looks at tempting onboard reading options for this summer

Is your refrigeration handling summer? • Check your engine driven or 12 volt system now

Boat, bike & beyond • Home to hundreds of islands sprinkled across cobalt seas, Croatia’s coast is one of the Mediterranean’s most popular cruising destinations. It has friendly locals, great food and a sense of ‘breathing’ history. And – if you hop on a bike – you can also enjoy majestic views from the islands’ peaks.

CROATIAN TRIVIA

Britain’s biggest boating festival • In September 2023, Andrew Howard enjoyed his second boat show of the northern summer.
