A SAILING SEN SATION • One of the smallest production cruising catamarans recently arrived Downunder – she’s an ideal way into this exhilarating form of boating, reports our Australian correspondent.

Welcome back to the Cove • Each September yachts from all over the world flock to the turquoise lagoon of Malolo Island just off the west coast of the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu, for the renowned Musket Cove Regatta. For most, it’s the last event of the boating season, before leaving their boats in one of Fiji’s marinas for the cyclone season, or sailing on westwards.

POWERING INTO THE FUTURE • The endless summer continues to roll on for Kiwi yachtswoman and sailing coach Penny Whiting – it just looks a little different nowadays.

THE KING MAKER • When you listen to your customers, undertake thoughtful design to meet their needs and execute the project using quality materials, you end up with a sought-after product, in this case the K5000 RIB – a top spec machine out of King Watercraft, based in Christchurch.

‘INSPIRED BY’ ANDREW HILL • Kiwi personal watercraft (PWC) fishing pioneer, entrepreneur and innovator Andrew Hill has been instrumental in the development of Sea-Doo’s FishPro range. Sea-Doo, part of Canada’s giant Bombardier Group, is the world’s leading manufacturer of personal watercraft.

Leaders in their field (Part 1) • A leader might be just a relatively short length of line, but its diverse roles make leader use essential to most forms of fishing.

YOU CAN’T PUSH-START A BOAT • Nothing spoils summer’s first cruise quite like the hollow ‘click’ when you turn the key. Likely causes include a sickly alternator and/or starter motor. Auckland’s Auto Electrical Spares (AES) specialises in bringing these lonely, unloved items back to health.

BOAT BLING

Catalina Bay Auckland’s waterfront secret • CATALINA BAY IS BUZZING FOR SUMMER AS CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON LUXURY WATERFRONT APARTMENT PROJECT.

MEET THE POOR KNIGHTS • The Poor Knights Islands, Tawhiti Rahi, 23 kilometres east of Tutukaka, are steeped in history, rich in scenic beauty, and make an idyllic anchorage in crystal-clear waters.

SPANISH ELEGANCE • The striking Menorquín 54 HT is one of the bigger models in Sasga Yachts’ range. It combines elegance and style with comfort and economy underway, it’s semi-displacement hull slipping through the waves with minimal fuss.
